For journalism teachers — such as our mentees — who are seeking ways to increase their advising skill set, the Poynter Institute’s NewsU is offering an online course that can help.

Becoming a More Effective Adviser: Journalism Values and Craft will run for three weeks (July 25 – Aug. 12) and will be taught by HL Hall and Wendy Wallace.

Hall is a former Dow Jones High School Journalism Teacher of the Year and former JEA president, and Wallace is Poynter’s high school journalism program director.

The course is offered online and will require 10-15 hours a week.

The cost is $179 or $239 that includes three continuing education units.

Check the NewsU website for more information on this course and other NewsU courses.
