Kate Plows, CJE,  art and journalism adviser at Malvern (PA) Preparatory School has been twice honored recently, earning both JEA’s Rising Star Award and as the 2017 Pennsylvania Journalism Teacher of the Year.

Plows advises The Blackfriar Chronicle, and the digital publication, The Friar’s Lantern at the Malvern, Pennsylvania school. Plows, in her 14th year of teaching, began publications advising five years ago and was mentored by JEA Mentor Kathleen D. Zwiebel, CJE.

Kate was also just elected to the Pennsylvania School Press Association Board of Directors, and she serves as their social media person.

In the last three years, the journalism program at Malvern has grown to national recognition, winning JEA’s Student Journalism Impact Award in 2016.
