Heather Treanor, Estacada High School, Oregon
Heather Treanor, mentee and media adviser at Estacada High School, in Estacada, Oregon, has received the 2017 Oregon Rookie Media Adviser of the Year.
She has reestablished the print and on-line paper, expanded the yearbook and doubled the number of students in the program. She has defended her students’ press rights several times.
According to her principal Ryan Carpenter, “Many students have expressed interest and excitement for (her) program and it is a tribute to Heather’s energy and passion for career technical exploration. Heather possesses a positive and enthusiastic personality. She has a great rapport with the students she has worked with. She is articulate, and always ready with a smile and a kind word. Heather is a strong teacher leader.”
