JEA mentee Tanya Bowman learned just before the holidays that the 2011 issue of Spectrum, the literary magazine she advises, had earned a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Gold Medalist designation. Bowman teaches at Huntsville (Ala.) High School and is in her second year as adviser to Spectrum and first year as JEA mentee of Nora Stephens.

According to Stephens, Bowman was extremely pleased with the news and wanted to be sure to do the right things to repeat that recognition. Spectrum is the oldest literary magazine in the Huntsville city schools.

One way Stephens has been able to assist Bowman in her advising was to connect her with a regional printer whose printing price was much lower than the previous printer. Stephens, who was a newspaper and yearbook adviser during her teaching career, said she has found great resources through other JEA mentors.

Congratulations!
