For the first time, the newspaper staff of Heritage High School (Broadlands, Ill.) and their adviser, Sue Fuller, attended the IJEA Fall Institute at the University of Illinois. Carol Smith, Fuller’s JEA mentor, took this photo at the university’s student union as the group gathered before the first session.

Fuller reports the staff has almost doubled in size and all are excited about the creation of an editorial staff with specific duties. Last year Fuller had no editors, and a different student on staff was responsible for laying out the paper each month. Fuller, who teaches the business courses, had no journalism experience when she was assigned the adviser’s position. She and Smith have worked together on staff development as well as layouts, story writing, and other essential journalism skills.
