Here are two gifts that Santa may not have included in your stocking — handbooks for educators for using social media.

Amber Coggin, a technology teacher in Mobile, Ala.,  has written two handbooks — one on using Facebook and one on using Twitter — that are targeted to educators. The handbooks are posted on her blog, SMART Board Goodies, and can be downloaded for free.

The handbooks are concise and helpful. The handbooks provide a brief overview to the social medium and provides some best practices tips about use. Even those who may be using Facebook and Twitter in their personal lives can pick up some tips for using these social media in their teaching and advising lives.

A helpful resource for mentors and mentees, as we explore the opportunities that Facebook and Twitter have for expanding, supporting and promoting “traditional” student media.

P.S. Thanks to Peggy Gregory for alerting me to this resource.
