San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno has 650 students and is the oldest Catholic high school in California’s central valley.

Their principal, Ed Borges, believes in scholastic journalism and has been effective in meeting with other disocese administrators in the area to develop a publications policy that is consistent with California Education Code laws for public schools.

The computers in The Pride classroom were purchased with the principal’s discretionary funds when monthly publication was reinstated two years ago at his encouragement. It had remained dormant for 22 years.

Editor’s note: Mentoring Monday is a feature on the JEA Mentoring blog. We’d like to feature photos of short stories about the JEA mentors, their mentees and the high school journalism students. Please send your photo, caption and story to 2jdodd (at) gmail (dot) com.
